I am a fibre artist working in textiles, paper and natural dyes, exploring ideas about nature in connection with the human spirit, expressing them with a strong materiality and passion for process intended to engage viewers and draw them close. I create display-works to enjoy with the eyes as well as Artist Books to gaze long at while holding in the hands. My preferred style of surface design is printing and embroidery characterised by distinct textures created by colour and materials. I especially enjoy using pigments that I extract from my garden-grown or foraged plants in a direct contact printing process often referred to as “eco printing” or “eco dyeing”. Rusted metals often assist the emergeance of colours and forms hidden from the naked eye in a growing leaf or bloom; in astonishingly new ways, colours and forms reveal themselves in realistic as well as abstract patterns on the chosen substrate.
